Why we built OverWatch
Our son leaves for college next year. We kept coming back to the same question at two in the morning: what happens if he sleeps through a low and nobody knows?
Most CGM apps only alert the person wearing the sensor. If they are asleep, if the phone is face down, if the headphones are in, the chain stops right there. So we built the missing layer, and we made it free for every T1D family.
OverWatch is not a guarantee and it does not replace medical care or your own alarms. It is one more tool in the toolbox, built to give a low the best chance of being caught by a real person.
How it works
Alerting is not enough. Escalation is what matters.
Every low becomes its own session with its own clock and its own contact chain, so nothing gets lost when more than one thing is happening at once.
Low detected
OverWatch continuously watches the warrior's CGM data from Dexcom, Nightscout, or Tidepool.
Warrior alerted
A loud, unmistakable alert fires on their phone and on every bedside Monitor in the house.
Care Circle paged
If nobody acknowledges in time, OverWatch texts and pushes to your contacts, in the order you set.
Confirmed safe
Anyone in the circle can reply that they have it. The session closes and the whole circle is notified.
The Care Circle
A circle of people you already trust.
We think about it as a circle we can build around our son. At college that circle is his roommates, the floor RA, the person working the front desk downstairs, friends in the building, campus police, and us. At home it might be a spouse, a neighbor, a grandparent, or the school nurse.
When a low fires, they get a text. They can text back that they have it, and everyone else in the circle sees that he is covered. If nobody answers within the time you set, it moves to the next person automatically.
Two way texting
Contacts reply to confirm they have it. You know a real person responded, not just that a message was sent.
You control the timing
Set how long each stage waits before it moves on. Page people one at a time, in parallel, or blast the whole circle at once.
Multiple circles, multiple warriors
Different circles for school, home, and travel. Every warrior gets their own chain, and replies are tagged by name so nobody gets confused.
Full audit trail
Who was paged, when, and who responded, recorded for every emergency session.
Monitor mode
Turn any screen you already own into a live glucose display.
An old tablet, a spare phone, a laptop on your desk at work, or a monitor in the kitchen. Pair it once and it becomes a big number you can read from across the room, hundreds of miles away or from the edge of your bed at three in the morning.
Big number, color coded
Large glucose reading, trend arrow, and color zones you can read at a glance.
No login on the display
Device paired once, so a nightstand, kitchen, classroom, or nurse's office screen never asks for a password.
Made for overnight
Wake lock keeps it on, night mode dims it, and in room audible alerts still fire when a low hits.
Bring your own device
No hardware to buy and no subscription. Other solutions sell you a screen. We just use the one in your drawer.
Everything else that comes with it
Bring your own CGM
Connect Dexcom with a secure login, Nightscout with a URL and token, or pull supplemental data from Tidepool. No new hardware to buy.
Parent dashboard
Current glucose, trend, and a plain English safety status, plus Time in Range and GMI. Anything computed on thin data is clearly labeled preliminary.
AI briefings
A plain English narration of what happened overnight, a threaded Ask AI grounded in real numbers, and a searchable history of every past briefing.
Weekly and monthly reports
Scheduled email summaries for any verified contact, including grandparents, plus PDF export for any date range you pick.
Independence and goals
A readiness framework for handing a teen more self management, with goal tracking and activity logs along the way.
Built for privacy
Row level security on every table, strict per user isolation, encrypted CGM credentials, self service data export, and full account deletion.
